Petaluma Arts Council is a cultural hub for residents and visitors of all ages, located in central Petaluma. The Council’s mission is to promote awareness, appreciation and expression of the cultural arts for Petaluma and the surrounding area. The Petaluma Arts Council began in June 1998 as a grassroots effort, and in 2008, with the support of the City of Petaluma and a generous donor, the Petaluma Arts Council opened the 4500 square-foot Arts Center in the historic Railroad Depot Freight Building. The gallery features a number of interesting exhibits throughout the year and the center also offers lectures, classes and demonstrations.
There are also various art-related events that take place in Petaluma throughout the year. Petaluma's Art and Garden Festival is held each July and offers an afternoon of wine and delicious delicacies, good music and art. September brings the annual Art in the Park outdoor art show and sale. Area artists open their studios and display new works during the Sonoma Countywide ARTrails Open Studio Tours which takes place during two weekends in October.
